”The Future is Early” – 1st NORDEM Conference on Early Music & Education, Malmö 2011

NORDEM - The Nordic Early Music Federation – held the first Nordic Conference on Early Music & Education in Malmö, Sweden, February 3-4, 2011.

The conference was arranged in collaboration with the Swedish regional music centre Musik i Syd, and held in connection with Palladium Baroque, Musik i Syd's annual festival for early music, Feb. 4-6.

The aims of the conference are:
1/ to map the existing early music education programmes and opportunities in the Nordic countries
2/ to create new contacts between tutors, musicians and institutions throughout Europe
3/ to inspire and generate knowledge and new ideas for future work and collaborations

The conference is a natural and important part of NORDEM's long term goal to promote and strengthen the position of Early Music in the Nordic countries. A process that involves creating new contacts and meeting places for musicians, tutors, students and audiences.

By focusing on Early Music education programmes in the Nordic countries, NORDEM wishes to investigate the basic conditions for the future of early music – the possibilities of education and inspiration open to young students – and to discuss and improve these conditions in order to enhance the interest, knowledge and understanding of coming generations.

The conference is primarily aimed at teachers, prefects and students connected to academies of music and other eductional institutions in the Nordic countries. In order to provide a wider perspective the wish has been to include input from established European institutions, and thus a number of keynote speakers from leading European education programmes have also been invited.

The conference is also open to the general public with special interest in the field of Early Music and Education.
Attendance is free for all but registration necessary.

The conference is supported by NORDISK KULTURFOND.
